Crucifixion is a short sample
clip of some ideas I had based on the "I. Imagine--The Cross"
narrative at the beginning of the MACC Easter 2004 production.
It was created entirely with Cakewalk Project5 and its softsynths,
a hammer-driving-spike audio clip, and the Crystal softsynth. The
clip contains several components that set a mood. This clip was
initially created on February 24, 2004 by Robert J. Hammond.
-
First, there is a synth-bass drone that provides a
solid foundation for all of the sound in the clip.
-
Second, there is a string melodic line (doubled
by a really cool virtual analog-synth lead sound) that moves down
a minor scale starting with the octave and ending on the root. This
sets a melancholy, even morbid, mood to depict the treachury and
darkness of the events leading to and during the crucifixion.
-
Third, there is a synth bass-drum that symbolizes the heartbeat of
Christ. It ends prematurely before the end of the clip signifying
Christ's death.
-
Fourth, there is a hammer-driving-spike sound that begins a few seconds
into the clip. This sound represents the driving of nails and the tying
of Jesus to the cross. Picture the soldier driving the hammer against
the metal spike that is lodged in Jesus' wrists to hold him fast to the
cross.
-
Fifth, there is a virtual-analog synth that provides a light fluttering
sound that moves through the sound field in the clip. This provides
additional motion and mysteriousness to reinforce the overall effect
of the song.
-
A reverb and echo-delay is used to create a thicker sounding audio bed.
